FC/AFC Diamond Hill Dan
Dan was bred by Allan Dahl and whelped on August 14, 1996. He grew up on the east coast, hardly a place for an all-age dog to get a start.
Dan finished his Open Field Championship in March of 2000 at the Susquehanna Brittany Club spring trial. He won a 5-point open gun dog stake and finished second in the open all age stake at the same trial. That summer, owner Steve Glass sent Dan with professional trainer John Kline to summer camp in Montana. Both men recognized Dan's unique athletic ability and incredible forward hunting style. The prairies were the place to polish these attributes and it paid off!
Dan was Runner Up in the Quail Classic and won the National Championship that fall. He continued his winning ways in 2001, winning the Kasco and Iams Dog of the Year Awards that year; he finished in the top 10 Purina All-Age point standings for five years in a row.
Dan’s short career was highlighted by 15 American Field Championship wins, and 3 Runner-Ups. This is more than any other Brittany to date. Besides winning the Nationals twice, (one of only three dogs to have accomplished this feat), he won the Southern Open Brittany Championship twice, the Region 19 Amateur All Age Championship twice, the Pheasant Classic/Championship 4 times, and the Region 3 Amateur All Age Championship 5 times.
While Dan doesn’t have a huge list of offspring to boast about, his personal accomplishments stand alone and he will go down in Brittany history as one of the best all age dogs to ever run. Dan was one of those dogs that everyone rode to watch – he was sure to put on an eye-popping performance, win or not.
Dan passed away on July 21, 2006. He was inducted into the Brittany Field Trial Hall of Fame in February 2007 and into the ABC Hall of Fame in November 2008.
Many of Dan’s offspring have started to show their potential to carry on in their father’s footsteps. Among them are FC Linvel’s Ace of Diamonds, FC/AFC The Rock II, FC Poison Ivy, and FC/AFC Ru-Jems Diamond Jim. FC Diamond Hill She’s Gone has points in both the field and show ring, and DC/AFC Diamond Hill Dangerous Man was named “Dual Dog” at the 2008 Eastern Futurity, winning both Best in Futurity Show and the Eastern Futurity All Age Stake.
