SHADY’S CHIK-N-LITTLE
1994 - 2007
Owners: Marilynne & Clem Little
Breeder: Fred Kewell III
Chikie was one of the top all age contenders in the Northwest and other areas all over the country. She was bred to run and grew to be a powerful running bitch. With three Hall of Famers as sire and grandparents, she was destined to be great. Chikie was chosen at just 3 weeks of age by her Mom, Marilynne, at an Idaho field trial from a litter bred by Fred Kewell III of Arizona.
A powerful running bitch, with an earned reputation of always running a forward race, Chikie would be lost to the front only to be found on point when the handler finally reached her. With 47 total placements to her credit, 18 were firsts. She was a child prodigy -- winning puppy & derby points at just 7 months of age and placing 2nd in her first Open All Age stake at just 13 months.
Her performances running the rims of the high Idaho and Nevada Red Rock mountains were awesome to witness! She competed in the ABC National Open All Age Championship from the time she was 18 months old until she was 8 years old. But, as happens to so many bird dogs, her career was cut short when she retired at 8 years of age after losing part of her lung to a weed seed.
Chikie’s biggest accomplishment however was her contribution to the Brittany breed. During her lifetime, she produced 6 litters by 4 different sires, passing on her wonderful disposition, smiling eyes and forward run to her puppies. She has become known as a “Blue Hen” producer and her record of production increases daily as the accomplishments of her progeny continue with hour winners still coming 3 generations later. She produced in just the first generation 7 American Field Champions, 4 Runner-Ups and 12 hour winners with a total of 68 one-hour placements.
The two most notable progeny carrying on her legacy are,
Shady’s Tia Maria, 8x American Field Champion, National Field Champion,
R-U National Amateur Field Champion, DC/AFC and the 2007 Purina All Age Dog of the Year.
Tequila Jokers Jose Cuervo, 3x American Field Champion and 5x R-U American Field with 14 hour placements and the #3 2007 Purina All Age Dog of the Year
