Remembering . . .
Jim Chase
Brittany Field Trial Hall of Fame Patron and Supporter
No one deserves more credit for the Brittany Field Trial Hall of Fame “space” at the Bird Dog
Museum, that is fully paid for, than Jim Chase and his wife Janet. Securing donations for the
Endowment Fund to sustain the space was their next project.
The loss of Jim by a heart attack early Saturday, April 26, 2012 leaves a void that will be felt
for years to come by the Brittany and Bird Dog communities. We all grieve the passing of Jim
and pray for the care of Janet.
As Chairman of the Brittany Field Trial Hall of Fame, I had the pleasure of working beside
Jim. Jim was both a Director on the Board of the Bird Dog Foundation and of the Brittany
Field Trial Hall of Fame Association. His dedication, compassion and generosity were
unequaled; he gave his time, energy and money to the Brittany breed and The Bird Dog
Foundation. We all can be thankful for the time we were blessed to know Jim Chase.
Last February in Grand Junction, when the ribbon was cut opening the new wing that would
house the Brittany Hall of Fame, Jim Chase was there right in the middle of the ceremony as
he should have been. He was the driving force in getting this project built and paid for and he
never lost sight of his goal.
Our loss of Jim is not remotely as big as Janet’s loss of her husband and best friend. They
were a devoted couple, supporting each other and their passion—the Brittany. Jim and Janet
would have been welcomed into any breed club; we Brittany folks were lucky to know and
have them in our circle. Friends are needed the most in times like these and Jim and Janet
made many over the years.
It was my pleasure to know and work with Jim Chase,
Rick Smith
